Dear Friends,

Of the one dozen Catholic institutions of higher learning in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is the oldest, having been established in 1832. It is also unique in its role in the lives of the nearly 1.5 million Catholics who live here.

It is the mission of our alumni — not only ordained priests, but also permanent deacons, and even many of the graduates of our School of Theological Studies — to serve the faithful of the Archdiocese, enhancing the knowledge and practice of their faith.

That’s why I appeal to you to be generous once again in your support of the Seminary. Because what you are really supporting is the mission of all the priests, permanent deacons and other graduates who serve us all.

These are exciting times at Saint Charles. Our four Schools of Learning — Theological Seminary, College Seminary, School of Diaconal Formation and School of Theological Studies — are all experiencing increased enrollment. And to judge by the number of young men from other dioceses being sent here to study for the priesthood, we are more than ever, a center for the Magisterium of the Church.

In the following pages are short profiles of three of our current students and one recently ordained priest. Please take a minute to get to know them and to understand how supporting Saint Charles Seminary supports them and the Lord’s work.

I encourage you to support your Seminary, and invite you to arrange a visit. May God bless you all.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.,
Archbishop of Philadelphia
