Dear friends in Christ,

In September of 2015, as His Holiness Pope Francis graced the communities of Philadelphia with his historic visit, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was profoundly honored to host Pope Francis on campus. Our Holy Father’s presence with us, and his message to our communities, continue to shape the life and mission of our beloved seminary.

For the opportunity to show our Holy Father our seminary, we owe a deep debt of gratitude to faithful Catholics like you, whose continued generosity make our outstanding formation programs possible. Because of your generosity, and through God’s grace, we strive to make the Seminary not only a place worthy of a papal visit and conference of the world’s bishops, but also a premier center for priestly formation and theological education.

Through your generosity and prayers, Saint Charles Seminary has been able to steadily increase its enrollment. In 2015-16, our enrollment grew by 20% and in our new academic year, we have a similarly strong 18% enrollment increase. We have also made our School of Theological Studies an attractive destination for both lay and religious students who seek advanced studies in fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. And our permanent diaconate formation program fills a vital need for the trained and dedicated men who serve our Catholic communities and parishes.

It is a tremendous and humbling privilege to serve as Rector here at Saint Charles and to see the grace of God working in the hearts of our seminarians, permanent deacon candidates, and graduate theology students. They all truly aspire to be missionary disciples and servant leaders after the heart of Jesus Christ. As a result of their daily commitment to service, we are inspired to continuously build on the Seminary’s already strong reputation in forming our Church’s future leaders. For this reason, we will soon develop plans for new facilities that will further enhance and better serve the contemporary academic, spiritual, and human needs of our seminarians and all of our students.

To continue our work, one of our most critical needs is the support of people like you, the faithful of the Archdiocese. Let me thank you in advance for your continued generosity, and ask for your continued prayers for our seminarians and students.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior
Rector
